Butchie Y asked Heater will not activate in the morning?
I got a new programmable Honeywell thermostat, the touch screen RTH7600D, has rave reviews on Amazon. I've had it for over a month now...it's been working great, except in the AM, I have it set for 74 when I wake up, and it hasn't been working consistently. The first day or two I had the heat on, it worked fine, was toasty warm in the morning. But then it just stopped turning on all of a sudden. It's programmed correctly - same Monday-Friday. Weird thing is, I switched it from heating to cooling during a heat wave we got, and when I turned it back to heating, it again worked the first day. And all of the rest, it hasn't been working. I can't figure it out, and it's really frustrating me. I doubt it's the thermostat - I think it has something to do with my heater (it's just a standard, forced air heater, not a heat pump or anything weird). Any recommendations would be great. And I don't think Honeywell customer support would be much help. They're just going to think I programmed it wrong. I have tried all that...if it was the programming, it wouldn't work the first day after I switch back from cooling. Also, I am an electrical engineer, not some inept person who can't handle an extremely (and IMO overly) simple programmable thermostat. I should have added, the heater won't even turn on when I override the schedule by manually turning the temp up! The override feature should be able to turn on the furnace any time! Why would it not work in the morning, with this thermostat? Furnace is in the garage...no sun or any light at all can get in there. Thermostat reads well below the level I have it set to, i.e. this morning I was freezing when it was like 62 (read directly from the thermostat) and it even SAID that it was set to 74. I forgot to mention that - the thermo says the ACTUAL temp and the temp it is SET to be at. Eliminates any potential programming errors. No power outages, it's actually battery powered anyway. I can't even reset the damn thing, it has some internal memory battery. But like I said, if it was the programming, when I wake up the actual temp wouldn't be 62 while the set to temp is listed at 74. It's supposed to be even colder tonight so the actual temp might even read in the 50's. Who knows but I'm getting these numbers straight from the thermostat.
And got the following answer:
My advice would be to reset it and go back and reprogram the times and temps just to be sure. Sometimes (lots of times) resetting the timers and temps will get rid of ghost 'bugs' in the system. Papaw
